The True Nature of Prosperity
Character Trait: Sharing and Nurturing Others
A Divine Giver, Not a Collector
In the peaceful ashram of Rishi Vashishta, life returned to calm after the storm of King Vishwamitra’s failed attempt to seize Kamadhenu. The sage resumed his simple daily routines, surrounded by students and nature. Kamadhenu continued to provide everything the ashram needed—milk, food, clothing, even spiritual nourishment. But never once did she hoard her gifts.
She gave freely—to sages, animals, travelers, and even strangers passing by. Her presence brought not just material wealth but a feeling of peace and fulfillment. The ashram flourished, yet there was no greed, no excess, no waste.
When asked why she gave so generously, Kamadhenu simply said:
“Prosperity flows only when it moves. Like water in a river, it nourishes when it runs. When trapped in dams of selfishness, it turns stale.”
A Lesson for the Disciples
One day, a young disciple in the ashram asked the sage:
“Guruji, Kamadhenu gives endlessly. Doesn’t she fear she’ll run out?”
Vashishta smiled. “She gives without fear because her source is divine. The more she gives, the more flows through her. That is the secret of true prosperity—it is infinite when shared, and limited only when held back.”
He continued:
“Many chase wealth their entire lives, thinking it will bring them security. But hoarded riches build walls. Shared abundance builds bridges.”
The World Today
Even in modern times, Kamadhenu’s wisdom holds deep relevance. In a world where success is often measured by what one possesses, her story reminds us that the truest form of prosperity is the ability to uplift others.
The greatest prosperity is when your presence brings peace, your words offer hope, and your resources ease someone’s burden.
Wealth is not just money. It is also:
-
Time
-
Knowledge
-
Love
-
Kindness
-
Energy
Every one of these, when shared, creates abundance that no bank can measure.
Lesson for Youth:
-
Prosperity is not what you own, but how much good you can do with what you have.
-
The more you share, the more life gives you to share.
-
True abundance is not about accumulation but circulation.
